The Disability Foundation history

TDF’s first home for the foundation was the Edgware Community Hospital.

After one year the Edgware Community Hospital announced it was being redeveloped and that the building that housed TDF was to be demolished . Due to the work achieved by TDF and the profile it had generated the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore offered the foundation premises on their site for a peppercorn rent.

The initial new centre at RNOH housed three therapy rooms offering a limited range of therapies. The demand grew as the word of the foundation’s work spread and RNOH offered TDF more space to meet this demand. TDF then expanded to twice its original size.

The centre now has five therapy rooms, including a children’s sensory room equipped with coloured lights, talking machines and interactive games for children with special needs, 25 therapists working on a rotational basis and 7 members of staff; a Chief Executive, a Deputy Chief Executive, Centre Administrator, an Office Manager, two receptionists, a Disability Information Co-ordinator and a Projects Co-ordinator, three of these full time members of staff are disabled as we actively encourage to employ disabled people.

We now offer a wide range of therapies for all ages and have developed a large data base to efficiently answer the helpline queries that flood in regarding all types of disabilities.

We are members of DIAL UK and RADAR both recognised comprehensive national networks.

We are independently funded and rely on donations and fund raising.
